I recently found a blog post about “How to Get More Twitter Followers” with an screenshot of the Top Twitterer in May 2008. Okay, probably you can barely see the names and numbers on my two screenshots but there are big changes, right in time with the “all-changing” O-Day (the day when Barack Obama had his inauguration).
Only eight months after this screenshot was taken, “a few” more people are interested in the 44th American President Obama (144,000 Followers compared to 30,000 in May 2008) and also Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg tripled his Followers from 29,426 to almost 90,000 enthusiastic Tweeters. But the Oscar goes to the English comedian Stephen Fry who jumped from zero to position six in only 191 days with more than 54,000 Followers.
Social Media gets more and more important - that’s what I’ve learned in the past seven months working at JAJAH in Mountain View, CA - and what other companies also figure out now. Twitter isn’t the best or only SEO tool to increase traffic to your blog/company profile but it can help you a lot to increase (and unfortunately sometimes decrease) your reputation in a web-based world we are living in right now. I’m the best example - I didn’t know anything about Digg, Mashable, TechCrunch or other techie websites a year ago but now they let me stay up to date and “geeky” by forwarding their news with RSS feeds or messengers like Twitter.
BTW, most of the Top Tweeters are obviously from the Silicon Valley or at least from California. Now you know where to live to get more followers. *haha* ;-)
Keep on Tweeting!!!
